The Walking Man!

Gus started walking on Sunday morning. Thankfully, Amy was able to see it BEFORE she left for her trip (see below). She was so nervous that she was going to miss it b/c Gus has been close for a few days now. His long distance record is about 8 or 9 consecutive steps but I hope to have him running wind sprints by late next week. Life is about to get a little busier, from what we hear! We'll try to get a video posted asap.

Bachelors

Amy took her class of students on an overnight field trip to the Hike Inn and left Gus here with me. It was Amy's first night away from Gus. She's been with him every night for the past 13 months! I figured we could step up and give her the opportunity to get away...even if it was only for a school-sponsored activity.

We played before his afternoon nap yesterday and afterwards we went to the TN Aquarium with a neighbor and his son. After we got home, we went to another neighbor's house for dinner and by the time we finished it was time for V to go to bed.

He woke up at 6:30 this morning. When I went in to get him, he seemed a little confused b/c Amy is almost always the one to get him out first thing in the morning. Gus ate several times before his first nap and then twice more before his second nap. (I'm amazed at how much that kid eats!) Then, I dropped him off at Kim's house and headed in for a half day of work. Amy picked him up on the way back into town.

Overall, I'd say that we definitely survived. That being said, we're glad to have Amy back!

When is my mom getting home?!?

Attack of the Killer Sweet Potatoes

So we've made an interesting discovery about our child: he is allergic to sweet potatoes. How random! We've had three or four major vomiting episodes in the last 6 months or so. And in at least 3 of them, I can confirm that he had eaten sweet potatoes approximately 2-3 hours beforehand. We had decided after the last go-around that we wouldn't give him any more, just in case. But you know how life is....I forgot to throw out the last few jars that we had and instead left them on the shelf, where they got mixed up with the others and, you guessed, it....Gus had some apple-sweet potatoes for lunch yesterday!

So we spent the afternoon cleaning up the car, washing the carseat cover, changing the sheets in the crib and generally picking up after the throwing up mayhem. But I'm happy to report that this morning, Gus is up and about and just as excited about life as ever!

Interestingly enough, Scott is O.K. with this discovery, because he, too, hates sweet potatoes! Like father, like son.
